Apple Cider Vinegar and pH levels



Someone wrote to me recently and commented about the confusion they were experiencing in finding out what is best when trying to combat their psoriasis.
Quote:
"I don't know about you but sometimes I feel I am going around in circles"



I think that we all have felt this way at some time or another. I know that I certainly have.
So what do we all do about it?

I have been writing the Psoriasisbesymptomfree.blogspot.com for many months now and when re-reading my old posts find that, although most of my observations are in the main useful,  there plainly is a need to organise ourselves and be disciplined as to how we decide what is best for us as individuals.

So lets go back to basics shall we? KISS 'Keep it simple stupid".

One of my big regrets as a keen amateur chef, is that Tomatoes are, as we all know, a trigger for inflammatory diseases of all types.
This is of course is a huge problem for me/us when it comes to planning our food for the day.

Most recipes that have anything about them include the Tomatoes in all of their forms.
I have a great sadness in having to limit my Spaghetti Pomodoro in order not to be flaring in the next few hours.

But I wonder if there is hope and that there may not be too much of a price to pay if we could get a balance going where we could maybe include these acid foods by making sure that we 'pay it back' with alkaline foods. 
It is obvious from reading up about this subject that both an Acid and Alkaline balance is necessary for the health and maintenance of our bodies, a kind of 'Ying and Yang' if you like.

If you have been regularly following me on my blog, you will know that my repeated mantras are: 'Let us be inquisitive" .. ''What if?"

I picked up a book the other day which, whilst discussing the importance of 'Food Combinations'  for a  healthy diet, also talked at length about the acidity of our bodies and how to balance those levels with diet.
I am a big fan of Dr Robert O Young who is someone who dedicated his life in researching how the pH levels in our blood is vital in keeping disease at bay.
He has continually been vilified for years (until recently) about his work in the field of pH levels, but I leave it to you to decide for yourselves who may have been responsible for that destructive criticsm in this age of corporate greed.

So, what if?

Instead of totally avoiding the obvious inflammatory foods such as the Tomato (as well as other nightshades), we were to limit our consumption of them and at the same time balance the inflammatory effects of these foods by balancing our acid/alkalinity pH levels?


If we could do this, might it be that we could, on occasion, enjoy some of these 'forbidden fruits' which we have to avoid?

How?

Well, let us all agree that Psioratics are more affected by acidic foods than most of our peers.
Whereas 'normal people' can scoff a Big Mac smothered with tomato ketchup, wash it down with a mega Coke and not have an obvious reaction, (not one affecting their skin in any case) ,  we would expect to receive days, if not weeks of retribution from our bodies in the form of flaking itching and pain.



We can all bore ourselves stupid gazing into the screen searching for the 'Simple Cure' for our particular ailments.
So it is my choice that I elect to 'Take Point' to use military parlance and try to make simple sense for myself, of what I find and condense it down for those of you who are interested.

The following then is a 'pot~pourri' of what I believe to be of some beneficial use to us all.
I will leave the links to some of the many sites that I have trawled to satisfy those of you who get a bit precious about that sort of thing.


So lets get our acid levels down and give our guts a chance to get our skin behaving itself ..yeah !!

I will leave it to you to look up the many sites which will tell you what to eat in order to become more Alkaline. 

Suffice to say, I was horrified as to the diseases that we are leaving our bodies open to if we remain in our acidic state.



The body becomes imbalanced and overly acidic primarily as a result of three things:
  •  Acidic Diet
  • Toxicity & Microform Overgrowth
  • Improper Elimination & Neutralisation of Acids

The process of restoring pH balance begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkalising foods, such as vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc., super hydration with alkaline water, and proper supplementation.
I include the following, as in my opinion, it explains clearly without any patronising scientific jargon, what this is all about.

"Many diseases and other health maladies have been linked to an overly acidic body.
Everyone has healthy, alkaline body fluids as a child, but as you reach your thirties and in some cases even earlier more minerals leave your body than you ingest. It is this loss of minerals that is the number one cause of over acidity.
If your diet consisted primarily of healthy foods including vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes,, seeds, and sprouts you would replenish lost minerals through the foods you eat (all things being
equal).
But you don’t eat healthy foods all the time and if your diet doesn’t consist of foods mentioned above, most likely then your diet consists of dead foods – foods that lack all kinds of nutritional values.
Besides the foods you ingest our environment is not as pristine as it once was and even our air and water, not to mention all the chemicals we come into contact with every day don’t help.
Thus you have a problem such as an acidic bodywhich can result in poor health.
But notice  here,  a very important point…
Acidic body first – then unhealthy body,fatigue, weight gain, diseases and disorders.
Not unhealthy body, fatigue, weight gain,diseases and disorders – then acidic body.
Why is that you may ask?
You see, when your body becomes acidic (low pH), that means there is a shortage of oxygen in your cells.
Unhealthy cells can lead to the growth of damaging pathogens, which, through their very survival, release more acid wastes, which damage even more cells.
The body attempts to adapt to this acidic environment, but as it maintains this unhealthy cycle it begins to experience negative symptoms.
These symptoms are then diagnosed as diseases, although they are really just the signs of  an underlying pH imbalance.
Even cancer tumours are symptoms of the unhealthy, oxygen-deprived, acidic environment in which they thrive.
But there is a way to bring your pH level into balance.
By eating the right alkaline-forming foods in right combination, supplementing your diet with pH balancing supplements, you could fast and easily restore your health, boost energy, shed unwanted weight effortlessly."

Ways to quickly balance your pH levels:


Take one whole freshly squeezed lemon and pour into a glass. Add Baking soda/Bicarbonate of soda to the lemon juice ~  a tip of a teaspoonful at a time until the lemon stops fizzing. Then add half a glass of filtered water to the lemon juice.
To be taken once in the morning and once before bedtime on an empty stomach.



Some Methods for Correcting an Acidic pH

There are supplements available for balancing an acidic pH. However it is essential to incorporate alkaline forming foods to one’s diet. In addition to some alkaline forming foods there are recipes for alkaline forming drinks that use organic raw Apple Cider Vinegar.

I have found that ACV is absolutely wonderful in so many ways. You must buy it with the 'Mother' for it to be affective. 


.Apple Cider Vinegar & Sodium Bicarbonate
  • 1 tablespoon of raw Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2   teaspoon of Baking Soda 
  • 8 oz of filtered water
Combine in a glass and sip – do not gulp.  This is especially good for those people that suffer from poor tooth enamel. The baking soda slightly buffers the apple cider vinegar before it is consumed. Taken once daily.
Taking apple cider vinegar on an empty stomach may cause a sensation of slight nausea. It is a recommendation to not eat for a short time after taking a.c.v. Usually ten minutes will suffice. If the nauseous feelings persist or are strong you can eat immediately.

Building up Alkaline Reserves

 A neutral pH of 7 is the perfect balance of pH. However an excellent target pH of 7.5 is more preferable to maintain proper health. The body needs these reserve buffers to neutralize any emergency when the acid levels are too excessive. These buffers are nutritional minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. These reserves are especially important to maintain when one’s diet is acid forming, the immune system is weakened or when fighting off infection or disease.

Why Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar?

This natural non-toxic unprocessed food has medicinal properties as well as detoxing properties. It has antibiotic and antiseptic properties that also aid in the detoxing process. The most important quality that it possesses is the alkalizing effect it induces in the body. It also is very effective at breaking up and dissolving the biofilm of mucous and pathogens that may be lining the G.I tract. It is an effective and useful agent for good health.

Acidic pH Balance Will Discourage Bacteria, Yeast & Fungal Growth

The acid nature of the digestive tract when suffering from chronic acidosis is a breeding ground for many different pathogens. These parasites, bacteria, viruses, fungi and biofilms are able to thrive under these conditions. They consume nutrients from the food one eats and may also block the proper absorpion of nutrition needed by the body. Concerning Potassium

Potassium is crucial for the body to maintain proper health. Potassium is used to assist the body in new growth of cells and tissues. This is true for replacing injured cells and tissues also. Raw unfiltered natural apple cider vinegar is an exceptionally high content source of potassium.

Other Uses

It is also used in many topical treatments of lesions. It is one of the liquid ingredients used in bentonite clay poultices which draws out impurities and toxins from the lesion and aids in healing and preventing infections. It is flavorful and can be used in preparing salad dressings and dips that have an added nutritional value such as live enzymes, potassium, phosphorus, natural organic sodium, magnesium, sulpha, iron copper, natural organic fluorine, silicon, trace minerals, pectin and other powerful nutrients. It helps settle upset stomachs as it aids in digestion of proteins. It has many useful aspects to it and is often the missing ingredient in many instances.
Warning: A.C.V. is acidic and drinking it often without buffering it with bicarbonate of soda or without drinking it through a straw may cause enamel damage of the teeth. Another method to prevent this is to simply add 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) to 4 ounces of water and using this as a gargle/rinse after drinking A.V.C.
